You got that right Boatman but now they make us say"Undocumented".
What about the Capt. of the port? Should he not be able to have the contacts to handle this or You think this is how HLS justifies the cost of RIB's Ha Ha.

Thanks for the tip!
I'll be in a similar (but different) situation, flying in to buy the boat, and leaving Florida within 30 days(?) to come back in at some point under the Red Ensign and with a cruising permit (though will be leaving under the Red Ensign too, hehehehe).
I'm going to have to have a long chat with CBP and DHS I think, before finalising the purchase date.
I'd like to stay longer initially, to buy a lot of fitting out gear, but it 'might' not be possible without exit and returning. No stamp 'out' looks to be a PITA to revisit (and all I want to do is buy stuff! lol!).
eta: Any Office I go to, I'm going to be armed with boxes of cream cakes. If I am kept waiting and worried, I'll eat them all, otherwise I share. lol!

Re: Non US citizen leaving US
Just went through the same issue. I'm Canadian, and flew into Florida last month to help sail a boat south. We contacted immigration to inquire about checking out before we sailed away. They said just go. Seemed strange to us ( we were all Canadian on board), so we insisted, and asked to speak to a supervisor.
They were all very polite, and in the end it all made sense. Supervisor said that the stamp doesn't prove you left the country, it just proves he stamped your passport. He said your entry stamp at your next port is proof you left. If you're concerned about an overstay issue, he said they allow for travel time when calculating the exit date. A well kept log book would be very helpful if your exit date ever became an issue.
This was just last month, and most others on here had the same experience, so it seems to be right.

Re: Non US citizen leaving US
When we left the Port of Palm Beach, we went to try to get an exit stamp. The officer said "we don't do exit stamps, just mail your I94 card back to us when you get to the Azores" and that's what we did.

Re: Non US citizen leaving US
Forget the stamp, no need to mail in anything. They don't stamp you out in airports either, do they?
Anyway, left with own yacht but also many times with the QM2 and never a problem during next entry.

Re: Non US citizen leaving US
My daughter and I left Fort Lauderdale in 2010, we also went to customs but they sent us packing, in the end all we did was give the Harbour Master on the New River our filled in green chit that we got on arrival. Seemed really strange but we didnt hear anything about it.

Same for us. Left Ft Lauderdale on a UK registered boat(1 x Australian / Brit, 1 x American aboard) and just posted back my I-94 green bit that was stapled into my passport from the Bahamas. Flew back into the US 4 months later - no probs.

Re: Non US citizen leaving US
When we left the USA (Puerto Rico) sailing for the BVI we were told over the phone that they don't stamp. No problem clearing into BVI and no issues later on reentering USA.
They were always very professional and courteous.

Re: Non US citizen leaving US
Yeah..... Similar situation back awhile. Flew in - bought boat - sailed out.
My wife, German passport; me, US passport. Tried to hand in the I94 or get an exit stamp but no go.
Anybody remember the film Casablanca wherein exit visas were the problem?
Please ref post #20 above & this: "He said your entry stamp at your next port is proof you left." Too right, mate.
Word of caution: Despite experiences from us or other folk responding in this thread remember that USA immigration can be finicky. Having a valid visa does NOT mean that any particular immigration officer will allow entry to the USA. It depends & is a judgement call.
Right on the US State Dept. website they proclaim an assumption: Anyone who GETS in will do anything to STAY in. So what to do? Be nice, polite, and bend over backwards to have proof that legal exit was made in the legal time frame.
Good luck. This tape will self destruct in 10 seconds........................

Re: Non US citizen leaving US
The fun starts when somebody with an EU passport leaves the US for any EU country... because they don't stamp your passport upon entry... leaving you without US exit stamp, without EU entry stamp and without EU exit stamp when you travel back to the US...

If ever there was a better articulated reason to stop over in Jamaica, I know not what it might be. Discounting herbal smokes, of course....
