Watermakers are not rocket science. Fairly easy in fact. All you have to do is figure how much space you have available, how much water you store and need to make keeping in mind that gallons per day means in 24 hrs. Then figure how you are going to drive the pump. Low voltage, high, or engine powered. Then you're ready to look further at either buying one or configuring it yourself. The latter being much more economical.

Forgive me if you've already heard it, but if you're planning to run the genny or buy a Honda 2000, then a 110v system from Rich is the way to go. If you're running on solar power and batteries, then a 12v system is probably your best bet.

Another option, pretty intriguing, is a Kubota engine running a large DC generator while also running a SCUBA compressor or fridge compressor or water maker pump, or any combination of the above. It looked pretty slick, and was cheaper than some models of water maker alone.
