Newbie needs help - Dauphin Island Alabama

Hello All-
I am mentoring a young guy, just finished his junior year in college, who has aspirations of cruising for a couple of years after school. He is near broke and in a bind in Dauphin Island, Alabama near Mobile. He is a newcomer to sailing who just bought an tired Alberg 30 and is bringing her home to SW Florida from Mississippi. He is hoping to get her here by the end of May when he starts a summer job. The boat is generally sound, but her systems suffer from some serious "Bayou Engineering". I only had a day to help him with repairs and addressed a serious structural/rig issue. I had hoped we could correct the systems after he arrived here.
The Yanmar diesel has a poorly conceived fuel system which starved the engine of fuel. Trying to start it, he killed his batteries, then when SeaTow came to give him a jump, he likely connected the cables backwards, burning up his battery cables... I did even more dense things when I started, I guess.

He is now safe at a marina but has neither expertise nor a deep pocket. I am stuck here in South Florida with work and cannot provide more than moral support and limited advice. He does not have internet access nor a smart phone, so cannot even send pics.

If anyone is in the area and could assist, he and I would be quite grateful.
His name is Sal, phone number is 239-297-2425
Thanks all.
