Newb, Looking for advice on first lesson

Over the past few months I’ve become extremely interested in sailing reading everything I can find about it. I’ve decided to take a basic lesson to see if I will actually like sailing as much as I do when I’m dreaming about it. I’m located in Atlanta and I know there are some lessons given on a large lake north of the city but I’m wondering if I should travel to the coast to get a better experience? I would love to hear any opinions or reviews from people who have taken lessons in Georgia.

Learning to sail on smaller sailboats in a local lake is a great place to start. It is less forgiving so it gives you a better feel for the wind and the efficiency with which you are sailing, and if you lose focus you end up in the water. That is a great motivator.

I first learned to sail on the Charles River in Boston. It was the most challenging sailing I've done. On a larger boat there are more responsibilities, and mistakes are more costly, but the sailing part is easy.

Welcome. Don't know about Atlanta, but CF is a great place to ask questions and improve your boat and sailing knowledge.

I think you are referring to lake Lanier . That would be a great place to learn. They also have active races and the possibilities of gaining experience crewing after you get a few lessons would be great for you!
