New Sailor (almost...)

Hi All!

I just started to begin to realize my retirement dream of sailing. My girlfriend and I just purchased a small Flying Junior to begin the learning process. We plan to sail this boat at a local club and soak up as much knowledge as possible. Next year we hope to buy a trailer sailer as our skills improve. Then, onto a birth and full size keel boat in the SF Bay.

There is a lot of moving parts on the FJ. It all seems so confusing right now. Retirement is still about 10 years or so away, so we have some time to learn! Any hints or suggestions are welcome.

G'Day Kevin, and welcome to CF.

Since you and your gf are already doing exactly what I always recommend to newbies, I'll not give more advice. You are doing great on your own!

FWIW, my personal route, many years ago, was o'day Osprey (15 ft daysailor), Catalina 22, Yankee 30, PJ Standfast 36 and now our current Sayer. The location? I lived in Livermore and sailed firs the lakes, then the bay, then off to see the wizard.

Have a ball, learn lots, and when you have questions, we're all here to try and help.
