New(er) sailor needs advice

Hi

I am wrestling with bringing down a 30 ft S2 9.2a. It is on the hard in Minnesota, and is in top notch condition. Having a 5 foot draft and a 13hp Yanmar has me thinking if it is a good fit. Especially with no a/c.

I invite opinions on it. I live on Siesta Key near Sarasota. Does anyone know where the boat would be splashed in, and set up? Anyone have suggestions as to dockage? I would prefer a slip with power, and not too long of a drive to see her.

And...Is April a good time to do this??

Ronnie

We have a Yanmar 13gm-f on our Hunter 31. very reliable, but by today's standard, quite underpowered. That may or may not be an issue for you, but we find it a real PITA, especially when powering into a stiff breeze with some chop.

Thanks. I knew the 13 was not going to be great...but it is only one of my fears...

Owned that particular model S2 for several years. Sailed out of Barnegat Bay NJ. Every summer went out in to Atlantic through East River. through LI Sound and into S New England waters. Great boat. Dry reliable and it turns on a dime. You must learn to helm with a gentile touch or you kill way with the large rudder and small steering wheel. You must keep a good epoxy coat on under water hull to avoid pox that I have seen on some. The Yanmar is noisy shake and bake but very reliable easy to work on. A feathering three blade(not folding)prop is a great addition. the red gel coat will need painting white is best choice. Good boat and good luck
