Need New Dinghy...Rigid or Inflatable?

I have inquired about this as well.

I have no interest in a kit, I just want a table of offsets or a file I can print out full size in paper and then do a gaboon or polycore version.

Their are a few small glass shops in this area that could build a design like this. The problem is to make it durable it will be heavy.

I fail to see how the cotemar boat can be 85 lbs, I worked up a few figures and a sheet of 1/8 glass would be no less than 32 lbs a sheet. Would need what 3 sheets, plus foam for bottoms, transoms, misc framing and glass for joints???

Well you get some extra value on the postage and all.

It is a shocker how much mostly the Southern Hemisphere guys want for their plans.

I mentioned this concept to Richard Woods today when he was in town and he said he was thinking of working on a design like this. He has done much recent experimenting with power cat hull shapes so we'll see what he comes up with. Earliest I'd start in next winter.

My hard dinghy. That's right, it has roller furling! And twin rowing stations with sliding seats and 7' spruce oars, allowing two to row while someone is still at the tiller. Rows amazingly well, with just one. With two its a rocket ship. Carbon fiber gaff rig, sails great, really dry boat. If you attach the dodger and the bimini, then you can do a full enclosure with the camp cover and a footwell insert and she sleeps two. Loose footed cat rig. No boom to dodge. 2.5 HP Lehr propane outboard fits easily in the cuddy with a six pack of propane canisters. Pushes her at 5-6 knots in all conditions. Always starts easily. Small people can handle the outboard. Plenty of room for four with dog and groceries. And she's pretty. The kids think its their own personal pirate ship, and it's great for their water skills. Easy (though not comfortable) to board over the transom from the water. Draws 6" fully loaded. Can drive it right onto the beach with kick up rudder and centerboard with steel keel strake. It's genius, IMHO. I gave up on trying to go fast or be lightweight and settled on sturdy, functional, and reliable. Have owned many of the dinghies on this thread. Boston Whaler, AB RIBs, Zodiac being the most recent. Still keep a roll up Zod with an 18 HP Tohatsu just in case. It fits under the v-berth with loads of room to spare. Outboard lives on the rail.

A relatively heavy displacement 52 footer gives a few more options. I have a vague notion for sailing around to various world opti events so a competition opti will have to fit on the forward net also.

No complaints here. Very stable. But then, I'm not too picky in the initial stability department, as long as there is loads of secondary. It's a stiff boat, sails like a champ under full sail in 20 knots, not a drop on deck when bigger boats are reefing down and plunging. I'll post some video.

I don't know. They work with ATL Composites in Australia and have someone lined up in Europe to make kits. I think there has been at least one Spirited 380 built in USA so perhaps they have someone.

I am sure Richard Woods could produce a great design and his plans would be cheaper. Just need to infuse foam on a flat panel (KSS method) and cut out , glue together and tape. Something around 3.2M would be perfect.

I for one have had a gut-full of dinghy that weigh a tonne

As for the stability, well even if it is marginally tippy it is to tippy for me.

$314 usd for a 10 foot cat dingy plan is a bit high, unless they are giving you the full size paper templates

WOW, she is beautiful. That is a real head turner. She will not work for my cat, but still nice to look at.
