Need boat insurance- liability coverage. Any advice?
If anybody knows of boat insurance companies, brokers, please send me a link or name. I would really appreciate it!
(I was told that I need it even for a dry dock at the boat yards in Fl, is it so?)

My boat insurance is Geico, which I got through a broker. Geico owns BoatUS so if you go through them, that's what you get. Perfectly good boat insurance.
BoatUS is worth joining for the tow insurance alone. Do it.

Own a house? If so see what your current insurer can do for you. All marinas and yacht clubs around here require you to have liability insurance. Some insurers may require a current survey, mine didn't. Having said that, my yacht club is the only place that ever asked for proof (must submit with annual dues). Hate to be turned way from a fuel dock....

Re: Need boat insurance- liability coverage. Any advice?
while companies like GEICO may be able to help you are usually better off with a broker who represents multiple companies and specializes in cruising boats. I recommend (with a lot of experience) IMIS Home Page ~ International Marine Insurance Services. The firm, International Marine Insurance Services, was founded by former cruisers and represents many top rated companies. They understand the nuances of cruisers' needs. Worth a call...

I use progressive, that's what my insurance provider suggested he was able to get me full insurance without a survey on a 1970 Irwin 32'
I now refer my customers to his company and they shop several providers on a case by case basis. I pay less for insurance now with a boat and 2 cars than I did at Geico with only 2 cars.

Re: Need boat insurance- liability coverage. Any advice?
I believe BoatUS requires a survey. If all you're looking for is the minimum liability policy to satisfy your marina, go with Progressive. They're cheap and don't require a survey. Can answer to whether they're any good or not, I've never had the need to file a claim with them.

Re: Need boat insurance- liability coverage. Any advice?
Sometimes boatyards & marinas have lists of them. Probably since it helps to prevent them having to turn away business. Which means check out any insurer in order to make sure they have your interests at heart, more so than anyone else's.
