This is great advice from Raku. If you buy a ladder that's too short, you will end up with a high quality ladder that you'll hate because it's so short it's hard to get back aboard. Spend the dough and do it right. (even the two section is apt to be pretty pricy as well).

I have two experiences with this -- one with soemoene I know who broke his leg quite badly but who was still able to get back in the boat because 1) the stern ladder was tied with what I call a "half bow tie" -- the type you use to tie the furled sail to the mast and 2) it was slong into the water. He managed to get back on the boat with a shattered thigh bone and a severed femoral artery. The ladder saved his life.

Another time I was "spotting" for someone while he used scuba to clean the bottom of his boat. He used up all his oxygen and was truly exhausted by the time he was done, but his boat was blocking the ladder to the dock, and he had to wait while I untied and moved his boat. He stubbornly insisted on getting out with all his scuba gear on even though I had a line ready to secure it -- i think he trusts no knots but his own. The dock ladder was also long, and he still struggled to get up it.

Since someone asked for pics of our setup, here are a couple. Again, not affiliated in any way with this company, but am darn impressed with their ladder. It is easy to deploy from water level, and it stows away to nothing.

Has anyone owned or used the handle kit available with Mystic foldaway? It seems that it would be nice to have. Without the handle kit the only thing to grab hold of is the stanchions and I hate to have people pulling on them. Thoughts?
