Multihull in distress.

I just got this news from a friend in GIB.. looks like a big Privilege , this days has been really windy in the med, man this suck , just 8 miles from the coastline... Also in Andraitx Palma of Mayorca last night , a nasty gale sunk and damaged lots of boats there.. Cant understand why some folks still see Andraitx as a Winter spot.. Its a dead trap...

Re: Multihull in distress.

From the Spanish SAR web site. translated..

The crew of the Helimer 219, based in Almeria, this afternoon made a risky rescue, amid a strong storm with winds of 50 knots.
A catamaran, named Jesseas II, with five crew on board, had suffered a waterway when it sailed 8 miles from Garrucha.
At 1815 hours, the alert has been received from the radio beacon corresponding to this sailing catamaran, with flag of the Virgin Islands. Minutes later a call from the 112 was also received at the CCS of Almería, alerting that the pleasure boat was sinking. From our Coordination Center in Almería, the Helimer and the SAR Mastelero have been immediately mobilized.
The sinking seemed imminent, and the crew reported that the life raft was ready and they were ready to leave the boat. Finally it was not necessary, since the helicopter has arrived very fast to the position, and the crew were still aboard the catamaran.

With the help of the rescuer they have been hoisting them one by one into the helicopter. At the end of the operation they have set off for the airport of Almería, and an ambulance has been mobilized there to assist one of the rescued, who had a wound in the ear.

The SAR Mastelero will remain overnight in the area evaluating the situation of the catamaran, which does not present a strong heel, although it has not come to sink

Re: Multihull in distress.

I'm trying to book a flight over to Spain to rescue a perfectly good 2 million Euro power catamaran which seems to have suffered some fairly minor water damage. My wife wants to come along, she's claiming "first dibs."

I wonder if the rescue helocopter can put us down on the deck, or does it only offer a one way trip off??

Re: Multihull in distress.

I don't think its a power cat--the remains of the rig can be seen draped over the starboard side.

Re: Multihull in distress.

I'm still interested, the conversion is half complete.

I'm actually not joking, if anyone knows their insurance company, I'd like to get in touch.

That's going to put a dent in the insurers annual accounting report.

Wow. Looking at the structure on google earth, it doesn't seem to be much protective, I'd definitely stay away from the outer parts of the piers.

Re: Multihull in distress.

At present we do not know what happened.
It looks like the crew is in safety.
But to fly over to take the boat makes me thinking "rob out the helpless". Hopefully the previous post was just sarcastic and I was not aware.
