The Dockhouse was 2 slips over from me and had a bad band playing both nights I was there so we couldn't go to sleep till midnight the first day and 1:30am the second.

I'm not planning to stop there again if I am passing through the area.
Its one street back from the Dockhouse.. walk thro' the carpark across from the dinghy dock and hang a left..

a hint: look for the word SMOKEHOUSE in the name of the establishment. BBQ can mean just about anything but not necessarily a place where you can find smoked brisket or pork. good luck with your journey south

Don, if you make the stop in Brunswick, I'll try to get you transportation to Southern Soul. Some mighty fine BBQ! A couple of others too. The cue here is better than I expected, being from Texas myself.

Re: Move Please, Get Outta the Way

You boys in Tx take the cook out a little seriously, pulling grill that took a 1 Ton truck to pull.
Funny thing about Barbecue is that Tx is completely different than the Carolina's, that is completely different than Down South.
Now that I think about it, Barbecue at the beach is pretty rare, have to go inland to a country town. Look for something named "Bubba's Smoking Butt Hut" or similar

That's funny, like to someone like me there could be a "Down South" further south than the Carolinas. yes I understand the map, but ........

OTOH if there is a guy sitting on the porch at Bubba's Smoking Butt Hut playing the bingo maybe you aren't in the right place for BBQ.

Move Please, Get Outta the Way

You have not been to the Deep South until you have been to Mississippi, Alabama, and Louisiana.
In many of those places you will be sure you are no longer in the US.
You have to get into the backcountry though, not right off the Interstate.

I was in the Air Cav for many years, I once drove through and stayed in LA, for the uninitiated, LA is Lower Alabama, anyway I had my Cav hat in the car, and it took a little while before I realized why Bubba was acting so rude, like he wanted to whip my Arse.
It was to him that Damn Yankee hat I had, once he realized I was a fellow Bubba and that hat was actually current day AirCav, well he changed the way he acted completely, but there for a little while I was worried.

Re: Move Please, Get Outta the Way

Cav hat is a Stetson by the way, watch Apocalypse now, yes we really do wear those hats unofficially, although many of us think it should be the official uniform, there is a lot more history in a Cavalry Stetson than say a beret.

Re: Move Please, Get Outta the Way

Well cruising really is maintenance in "exotic" places. OTOH it does make for a good excuse to pull into the lap of luxury (a crappy marina). I'm on my second marnia stop/stay to get a new autopilot drive unit. The first lasted 15 years and the second one lasted 2 hours :-(

As I'm now in South Carolina my hope for BBQ has increased. But it turns out that according to the locals it is a 8 minute drive away, which is a loooooong walk.
