Thanks for good news Seachange

So his AIS was still transmitting, "weakly," 3 weeks after abandonment.

Good, but he was lucky someone came by in time. A longer transmitting time would be preffered.

Re: Mono in distress

Looks like the New South Wales Water Police towed the yacht back to Eden. Well done!

Re: Mono in distress

Yes +1 to the Well Done

This starting to look like a good ending

And it would be nice to know exactly the how, why, what of the rudder failure.

Re: Mono in distress

I thought I could see an intact hydrovane in the rescue photos... maybe just a trick of the light.

Re: Mono in distress

...to late to edit my last.... maybe the aux rudder part of the hydrovane had been lost.... that can make life difficult.

Now that is a great story. It doesn't happen this way often - Congratulations to SAR and owners is due.

Re: Mono in distress

OK, now we know why the rudder failed. This is the description Nick posted to https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/nick-dwyer:

"We have put val on a boat yard. The cause of the lack of steering was a broken weld joining the rudderstock to the teering flange. Nothing we could have fixed at sea. The rudder was badl damaged. I have spent the last two days angle grinding and welding and she is ready to go back on the boat. We are just waiting a new."

Re: Mono in distress

Those guys are soooo lucky. I saw the boat on the hard in Eden. They'll be back in business soon.
