Re: Missing Sailor Alert

Here is the deal: we do not know where he is, there is no contact with him for over a month. His EPIRB was never activated and there is no sign of any emergency transmission from his yacht. His family, friends and all sailors are very concerned about his whereabouts and health. Authorities have been contacted in Brazil, Poland and internationally, merchant and cruise ship companies have been asked for help. We are using all possible means to spread this message among sailors, mariners and persons concerned about safety on sea. Please do help. Please share this post.

If you know of any friend or family member, neighbor, simply anyone on any vessel, commercial, pleasure, navy, that could be around that area (and probably way north or northeast of that area now), please pass this message and ask to look for Tom and his sailing yacht and not only inform if he is seen, but communicate with him and check on his status.

Re: Missing Sailor Alert

Just had a look at the sat-c now for you & there's nothing about this been broadcasted via Navarea/EGC msges over here.(& there should have been if they were notified)
I'd suggest getting hold of MRCC Cape Town or Cape Town Radio
SAMSA/MRCC - Tel: +27 21 938 3310
Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) | SAMSA
OR
Cape Town Radio - Tel: +27 21 5510747 or
Email: maritimeradio*at*ixmail*dot*co*dot*za

That would at least get notice to shipping bound that way from the Indian
They'll want to know more vessel details if you've got them.

He may be either on his way and close to the Azores or stricken and limping (or adrift). Otherwise it has been 40+ days - enough to reach West Indies, Cabo Verde or Canary Islands in this boat, if she is OK.

Is official SAR on?

I ask this because I did not hear any relevant msg issued from SAR Canary Islands.

Re: Missing Sailor Alert

I wasn't sure if you meant just the boat, or boat + captain, so I ran a Google Translate on one of the Polish language pages. Sounds like he's alive and well.

  • Azores after 42 days
Exactly 300 days of departure, after 42 days without a signal is found, our captain Tomasz Cichocki. As usual in ATWDP happy about come to us in round anniversaries, or holidays important to us. The yacht was caught by ground-based AIS receivers in the vicinity of the Azores (800 miles west of Lisbon). Vigilance showed Zbigniew Świacki, fan project, which tracked down the master page marinetraffic.com. Last recorded position of the boat from 5:35 at night (UTC). Since then, the captain managed to sail through the Azores probably is getting closer and Brest.

Re: Missing Sailor Alert

They used sat based (I think Canadian) method to track his AIS. Now they stopped or it stopped or whatever. Alas, someone claims to have found an AIS track in the vicinity of the Azores via a land based tracking station.

Unless our brave captain is no longer there and the boat filled with mystic powder is sailing to an European dealer ;-))) ... smugglers unaware ... of an AIS tracker ... tracking them ;-))) (OK, just a joke, PLS bear with me).

I am glad he is OK but I am disappointed the OP did not let us know as soon as they had the news. Reminds me of many other publicity stunts.
