I'm a high J with a moderate T; folks expected us to never get to any 'next step' let alone go cruising.

Thus the name of our boat: Flying Pig

I'm known for (my asperger's aside) patience, diligence, and follow through. The last seemed to have escaped our critics

Here's an interesting thesis:

Thank you, SHREW...exactly my sentiments; I hate 'in crowd' codes.

...and Thank you, too, Chris. Very much appreciate the enlightenment.

Yet another ISTJ, former engineer.

Maybe this should be a poll?

Re: Mbti (personality) of sailors

Apparently I am an INTJ-T whatever that means, test said Architect,
What's that mean?

Gord, I am going to go out on a limb and say very, very few of us are "real cruisers"
I don't think I am or will be and do not think the Wife is either, or will ever be.
Longest passage I've been on to date was four days, and by day two I was ready for it to end.
Myself it's the destination that I go for, not for the journey, and I guess that is what makes me not a real cruiser?

Re: Mbti (personality) of sailors

I know several delightful extroverted sailors and they tend to be great hosts/great racers. Don't know many -any?- who solo sail or solo liveaboard.
I would be curious to know if any other INTJs like racing - I don't, too many people....

Oops, I didn't know you could add a poll to this forum. I just figured out how to add one.

To a novice, all of sailing seems to involve "in crowd codes." We have a different name for everything. lol Half the time I don't know what the hell you guys are talking about!

Re: Mbti (personality) of sailors

OK having just discovered this Personality test thing from this thread, I took the test and looked up what INTJ meant, Wife confirms that's what I am, but according to what I can find, they are only 2% of the population?

I used to Road Race motorcycles for fun, had a guy comment on it seemed many Road Racers were left handed, (I'm not) anyway at sign in at the next few races we asked every lefty to raise their hand, and darned if at least 1/3 weren't left handed, sometimes more.
Never did determine if that meant anything, but if it turns out that a much higher than 2% of sailors are INTJ, what if anything does that mean?

I have raced many things in my life, I like winning, and usually dislike "teams"
a lot of racing is Solo, that is why I like it, for the specific reason you don't.
Odd isn't it?

Wow, I've never heard that about motorcycle racers. I love/ride motorcycles and I'm a lefty. I suppose it means that we have a predisposition towards enjoyment of certain activities.

One of my favorite personality websites is Personality Junkie: Type, Careers, Relationships & More! He has a ton of info on INTJ's and INTP's. I read his ebook on INTP's and it predicted my dissatisfaction with the status quo, my search for meaning/freedom, political leanings, difficulties with romantic relationships (my screen name is meant to be ironic). lol

These personality studies indicate we are not as special or individualistic as we would like to think. They can be used to point us in a better, more fulfilling direction in life.

Listen up, maggots. You are not special. You are not a beautiful or unique snowflake. You're the same decaying organic matter as everything else. -fight club

I'm an ISTJ, but I'll "reach across the aisle" as long as I'm not too busy sorting the food on my plate by size and making sure that the different servings are not touching each other.
