Well - personally, I love the Aubrey /Maturin books and I recently completed my collection by buying the last six on Amazon and they came two days ago. So once I finish my current reading I am in for a treat.

A series I read many years ago, was the "Richard Bolitho Novels" written by Douglas Reeman under the pen name of Alexander Kent. Very good! Douglas Reeman's Official Website

In the same way that France sees Trafalgar as an amusing little battle offshore ( as bonaparte had no interest in Navies). The Royal Navy saw the war of independence at sea as a minor conflagration, of little consequence, with 130 ships of the line and numerous smaller vessels it ruled undisputedly until the late 19th century !!!

You can get them in hardback but the price is ridiculous. I was specifically looking for them in paperback to finish off my collection which are all the same style

That looks like a good deal as the paperbacks run at around £7 per book and there are 21 of them. I would go for it.

Personally, I like the smaller, lighter format of the paperback.

I've got this set and it's well-made. The paperbacks are easier to read though -- my arms get tired holding the heavy multi-volume hardbacks.

I wish the Hornblower books were available as a boxed set. I recently ordered the complete set of individual books, since my Hornblower books are old and scattered. A friend just told me she was reading a Hornblower book and I'm looking forward to giving her a chance to read the set.

I stopped buying paperbacks years ago since the books just do not last and I do reread books. It is hard to reread a paper back that is falling apart. Now that many books are published electronically, I look at the price of the hard back vs the ebook. I am increasingly buying ebooks for the Kindle.

One of the problems I had concerning cruising was how to deal with books. No way could I take my collection with me and even a few weeks of reading would take up lots of space. With a Kindle, oh my, problem solved. I really do prefer the Kindle since I can make notes and the books are available on all of my devices. Not to mention free books that prior to the Kindle would have been hard to get even from libraries.

My first generation 7 inch Kindle was a PITA to use because of weight. I just bought a new 8.9 inch Kindle and it is thinner and weighs less than my old Kindle yet has a larger screen and more battery life. Wonderful gadget.

I have some first edition Hornblower books in not great condition but I prize them because the little drawings in them were done by Andrew Wyeth. If I remember correctly his father, famous illustrator N.C. Wyeth, got the contract to provide the sketches. It was such a small job that he passed it on to his son Andrew.
