Marking reef lines

Hello all,

I was wondering if anyone / everyone marks there reef lines / main halyards?
Just thinking it would make putting a reef in much easier if there were pre-marked, erm, marks on the lines?

Does anyone have any tricks they use for this? Was thinking glow in the dark tape or something? (I always seem to reef more when it's pitch black).

Regards,
Simon

Re: Marking reef lines

Good mornin Simon. Yes we mark both. Sewed a Mark on the black halyard with white sail repair thread just where it comes through the jammer, and a permanent marker mark on the white reeding lines.
How's the trip to gib coming along?

Re: Marking reef lines

Good ideas I think I'll do that when the wind drops.

We're stuck about 150 miles East of Gib at the moment. Bit of nasty stuff coming through the straights but should be in Gib by the weekend.
Plan is to then spend a few days getting the water maker installed, etc, and head down to Morocco, then over to the Carnies around the 10th of Nov. Lots of miles to go, days running out!

How's things with you guys? Any tips for the Carnies?

Re: Marking reef lines

Best tip is to stop at graciosa island at the north of lanzarote if the timing works out for you. A nice anchorage, clear warm water, protected from W-E. They don't seem too phased if you don't check in immediately either. The only diesel pontoon on lanzarote is Puerto calero but it's best to fill up at gib probably.
