Hello there,

I actually pulled it off!
After a few long debates about boats where I always heard how she would never be too fond in getting into a "vehicle" that heeled, we went to the local marina to take a look at some boats passing by... between a drink and a passing sailboat from the sailing school, I asked if she would like to give it a try on one of those nice small sailers...

...And she was hooked!

Now she wants sailing lessons! After all... it "heels" more from the outside!

i am a sailor--doesnt mean i am am marinized. marinized doesnt even touch my feet...when i am standing up.

I took mine to sailing classes, she hurt her back. I bought a small boat, took her sailing n the river she wanted to pet the labradors playing fetch. I bought a bigger boat took her sailing and yelled at her. She didn't go again on that boat. I bought a still bigger boat, that she urged me to buy, she complained when we were out sailing in a 25 knot breeze and the boat was heeled over real nice.

Actually it´s from a brazillian builder. It´s a "Marreco 16".
Very small, but a very stable boat with a cabin.

A marinized wife means she has plenty of materials that do not oxidize....like gold and diamond, except for Zee who opts out of that definition.

Very good. For me it was convincing her to go on a bareboat charter in the BVI. First day she was nervous. We took it slow and easy, no long slogs upwind, and stayed at the marina in Spanish Town mid-week so that she could get a shower. By the last day she was the one suggesting that we just do a bit of tacking back and forth in the Drake Channel, "for the practice."

She loved the week, and fell in love with sailing because of it. (Well, okay, maybe not as much "in love" as I am, but at least she is firmly "in like" with sailing.)

Steps for our success:
1) it was a joint decision to get a boat
2) honesty about whether or not I was the right person to instruct her. I wasn't; she took basic cruising on her own, loved it, and it gave her the confidence to make decisions
3) share the goals and the helm. It's her boat too, she also gets to choose where we are going and when, and she gets to captain when she wants to. 50-50
4) Outside of a dire emergency, yelling is a fail. Practice stuff that either of you are weak on.
5) learn to solo if you want more daysailing and she doesn't. or, join a race crew.

It's been seven great years sailing together, and many more planned.
