Marinas in mediterranean

Hi all,

My family and I are looking for a place to store our 49ft catamaran from mid October until we can next get to the mediterranean - probably not until May 2014 - does anyone know of a good marina which isnt insanely expensive?! Ideally we'd get it out of the water, but dont have to. Looking for east coast of Spain, south France or the top west of Italy ideally. Port Ginesta seems to be the best I can find so far, but at 1000 euro per month its still on the costly side - esp since we're paying with the NZ dollar..

Many thanks

Have you checked out Almerimar... used to be the cheapest along the E coast of Spain.. just a pain to get to by land.. things may have changed
If your there for that long they used to do hefty discounting for advance payment...

Re: Marinas in mediterranean

Are these just internet listings or have you called? Haven't been yet but from research, there seems to be a lot of flexibility in winter rates.

Then again a 49' catamaran is a pretty big boat. Assuming a 20'+ beam, you are likely taking a slip for a 70-80' boat. $1000/month is likely not considered crazy by most folks who buy boats that big.

we are also interested in marina rates for large cats, 56 ft but not till the following year, can you post any further info you find please.
Valhalla360 1000 euro is not the same as $1000, and not all with bigger boats have sqillions to keep them - of course pen fees will be more but the multihull rates can get ridiculous.

Re: Marinas in mediterranean

I will +1 Almerimar - I spent 10 days in Almerimar in January this year (when it was blowing 60+ knots through the straits of Gibraltar), there was a big discount for a long stay, they were surprised we were moving on at that time of year, but we were on our way to St Martin. Its part of the over development in southern Spain and has lots of capacity and is hardly over subscribed, so they seem pretty motivated to offer good prices. Its also a nice place, good tapas and nice people. Pretty quiet in January mind you.

Re: Marinas in mediterranean

Karbil: I understand the difference but even at US$1300 (sorry, I was typing quickly and I don't have a euro symbol on my keyboard), it's not paticularly high for a 70-80' slip.

This is one of the reasons when we think of moving up from our little 34' cat that we back off. The care and feeding go up dramatically with size and the 20-25' beam of a large cat complicates things.
