Re: Man Washes up in Marshall Islands 'After 16 Months Adrift'

Coincidental science confirms plausibility of 13 mos drift story-

Scientists just happened to place 16 drift-drogues off the Mexican coast about the same time that Alvarenga began his odyssey. Their results:

"Overall...the 16 tracers show a remarkably narrow path over this long period of time, given the satellite daily wind and current variability that drove the model. The paths of the tracers passing by, or nearing, Ebon Atoll span not more than 2 degrees latitude or about 120 miles.
Alvarenga’s claim that he had been adrift for 13 months and that he came from Mexico, therefore, falls well within the model’s limits and is consistent with the prevailing pattern of wind and ocean currents during his ordeal.
The mathematical computer model was originally developed by Maximenko and Hafner from paths of actual drifters with 15-m deep drogues. The initial purpose had been to chart the varying ocean surface circulation.

I don't think one could find better confirmation regarding length of time at sea and ultimate point of arrival.

I suppose the scientists could have tossed 16 fisherman in identical boats into the currents to better satisfy skeptics, but rubber duckies and Nike tennis shoes have been used by scientists in the past (for drift studies) with good results. These tracers were high-tech!

No, this is not how Polynesia was populated. Polynesian fisherman were outstanding navigators: Hawaiian Voyaging Traditions

No, they did not happen to place drogues in the ocean as far as I read, it is all computer simulated according to the story that you linked to.

Whatever... IMO the sceptics in this thread should admit being wrong, thou I know many have strong beliefs against but all the facts so far are pretty much conclusive..

Really? Are you their priest? You don't look or smell like a priest? Why don't you have them arrested while you're at it?

Yes, you're correct- I wasn't clear..."The mathematical computer model was originally developed by Maximenko and Hafner from paths of actual drifters with 15-m deep drogues"

They did not place the drogues coincidentally with the fisherman's departure, rather "tracers" were inserted into the model coinciding with his departure.

Still, good confirmation.

Re: Man Washes up in Marshall Islands 'After 16 Months Adrift'

There's no compulsion on anyone to back down from a strongly stated opinion which turns out to be wrong, provided they don't care for their declining reputation for integrity and fairness.

It's a cost-free action, which some might see as self indulgence, to publicly mount strong and premature attacks on the reputation of someone who has become a public figure (in this case, through no fault of his own), on weak pretexts, from behind the safe shelter of a screen name.

Anyone who does this sort of thing routinely will inevitably earn the scorn of his or her fellow humans, whether or not their real identity is knowable.

I don't think anyone was setting themselves up as a priest, let alone contemplating an arrest.

Re: Man Washes up in Marshall Islands 'After 16 Months Adrift'

This thread was broadcast live and most of the info came in unfiltered and contradictory. Quite a buzz. As more info came some of us flipped.

So second guessers and late stooges doom on you. Quit lecturing and flipping events out of order. Join the party.

You sure you aren't a priest?

Salty Monky

If I were a priest, I would be concerned for your conscience, and your eternal soul.

I could not care less about those things.

All I care about is the company I keep -

in which connection, thanks for your honest disclosure.

Responsible late stooges are doomed to reading more than 400 posts before braving a reply. The fact that there are 400+ posts is what makes this forum awesome.

"I guess 'late stooges' is code, but I'm not sure what for. Maybe it's code for people who wait until the smoke starts to clear and the facts are in ....

.... before rushing to assassinate the character and credibility of a defenceless person who's had the misfortune to come to world attention.
