Also.. remember their hard lifestyle/diet is gonna make them more likely to survive than the pampered pudgy Westerner
My parents came across a raft in the middle of the Indian Ocean. They spotted it late afternoon and spent more than a few hours beating over to it in fluky winds. It seemed to have a bunch of refuges all bobbing their heads and chattering excitedly. My mom was worried they would not have enough room for all the people. They approached it right at dusk and was able to shine the spotlight on it to get a good look at the survivors. It was loaded with boobies, the feathered kind. No humans aboard. They had a good laugh, but it was also a bit eerie, the raft had writing all over it. "Robert was here" and a few other things. Strange!

A man in a drifting boat is not required to show the ocean circulation. Speaking of which, in December 1990 a friend capsized 980 nm SW of San Diego. The boat was tracked remotely for several weeks. In that time it had drifted westerly almost 2,200 nm which includes several apparent trips around mid-ocean eddies. The boat was on track to ground at Kingman's reef except it apparently finally sunk.

If he offers any jerky, my advice would be to turn it down.

Re: Man Washes up in Marshall Islands 'After 16 Months Adrift'

From the Herald Sun article linked a few posts above,
"Marshall Islands immigration chief Damien Jacklick said authorities were still gathering information and the foreign affairs department planned to contact overseas officials to arrange his repatriation.

"With the help of the US ambassador, we were able to obtain information on his family members in El Salvador and the United States," he told AFP. "We hope this information will help us track down his family." Medics plan to give Albarengo a thorough check before he is interviewed by detectives."
