Smart guy. Catching seagulls and tearing off their wings so they can't escape, then keeping them alive for some time so he always had fresh meat "on the hoof"-pretty sharp. This is the sort of thing a third world villager would think of but many first worlders might not. No refrigeration
required. 8-10 seagulls with their wings torn off in the boat at once must have been a nightmare, though. No wonder he's heavily scarred.
