Re: Making a Ship's Stamp

Here is a site that allows you to make your own seal online (and order it if you want).

It only has two sailboat designs, however, you can customize otherwise.

Re: Making a Ship's Stamp

Any reasonably well known stamp shop on a coastal town where ships regularly call should have a menu of ships stamps and embossing clamps. We had ours done in San Diego... easy, quick, cheap and choice of ink colors. The time to use them is at the time the entry documents are being processed by the local immigrations and customs officials. They stamp a set and sign then you stamp the same set and sign. Ships name, hailing port, doc #and place to sign are the important pieces of info... everything else is nice but not critical. I agree with the other poster who mentioned attitude is important... be pleasant for goodness sake. I might add to dress appropriately when dealing with officials in foreign countries. I can't tell you the number of times I went to the front of the line because I was wearing clean clothes, my Captains cover and shoulder bars while a bunch of Capt Ron look alikes sat waiting. Cheers, Capt Phil

Re: Making a Ship's Stamp

I've been thinking about making a ship's stamp. Found this topic, and found the following web page.
Maritime Topics On Stamps, Postmark Cancellation Stamp
Lots of visuals of actual ship stamps. Shoudl be sueful to those thinking of making their own.

In many places, a ship's stamp will allow you to purchase items duty free.

Re: Making a Ship's Stamp

Just reopening an old thread. As we have a new vessel and are considering creating a ships stamp, curious if they are still needed. Who has used them in the last year? If so, where?

They don't get used often, but neither do liferafts. Stamps are also dirt cheap, so why not? Used ours last month multiple times in getting visas and clearance for Indonesia.

Thanks Paul. Just checking if they are still being used before ordering one. I am guessing that it is time to design and order

The ships stamp gets used when we purchase duty free fuel, it’s required in order to schedule the delivery.

Thanks Kenomac. We have decided we will have one made. Which countries are you using yours in?

Re: Making a Ship's Stamp

I have a hand embosser rather than a stamp. I also use it to customize my boat cards. Having used inked stamps for nearly forty years for business purposes I was glad to get away from them on my vessel.

Montenegro requires the stamp to purchase duty free fuel, we also intend to buy duty free in Albania if possible.

We made one many years ago, before going off shore, and designed it ourselves. It was rarely used. We still have it, the ink is still good (amazing).

I'd like to make a new one, more flowery and intricate, but who needs it?
