Looking to cross Atlantic. Need a boat

The Fates have decided to grant me free time in January/February. I am an experienced captain and I have always wanted to cross Atlantic.

Does anyone have a boat in Europe that you would like to move to Caribbean for a season? I am not doing it for money, just for enjoyment so it would be a great arrangement for you.

Your best bet would have been ARC 2019, if you can change your free time dates, I would strongly recommend that option.

ARC leaves in November, I am busy at work till January.
Plus, I don't really want to go with 200 boats, I prefer to be alone with the sea (I am sure, many people here would understand

You might want to try more European-oriented sites like https://www.hisse-et-oh.com or https://www.yachtsandyachting.com/forum/

Also, January is not usually a fun time on the North Atlantic, even if you’re heading south. Many owners might be more inclined to leave later, in the spring.

January fine for an E-W crossing.. by then the trades are settled in well so a run from the Canaries will be much better than the November ARC.
Thats only run then for Christmas in St Lucia..

Re: Looking to cross Atlantic. Need a boat

ybw.com is a good site as well.

Europe is quite a wide area, by the way. It could be quite exciting to have our boat on the other side of the Atlantic, but the trip in January from over here in Finland to the trade winds (on this side of the pond) would be quite something else. Starting with getting through the ice for the first miles

Perhaps, we can do it next year? Get the boat to Canary Islands before end of a season and then I would move it across Atlantic. Think about it

I infer you propose singlehanding. There is risk there that owners may not be willing to accept.

Not true at the latitude of the Canaries. That's a lovely time to be crossing E-W. The only reason it's not done more is that most people taking their boats that way want the whole winter in the Caribbean.

I concur January from the Canaries is probably the best time to go with Trades fully established. It also makes it possible to make landfall further north in the Caribbean, allowing a one way sail south for the reminder of the season if you want to end up in Trinidad, F. Guyana or the ABC's for the hurricane season.
