Looking for a daysailer

Have been looking for something that will go fast, be able to sail singlehanded and be in the 5-10k range; preferably new for simplicity's sake. Have checked out mono and multihulls and can't make up my mind. Some boats I've considered; laser 4.7 and hobie 16.

Anyone have any other considerations?

Thanks!

Re: Looking for a daysailer

A few ideas on lower cost performance day sailers:

Hobie 16 - 18, etc. Lots of different new and used Hobies out there besides just the H16. I used to have a H16 -- which you can pick up used for next to nothing.

J-22. You can pick up J-22's in your price range.

Hobie 33. Only mono Hobie ever built. I have a Hobie 33 which I picked up used in your price range and it was in relatively good shape. Way fast and way fun. Most on the market will likely be a good bit more expensive though.

Another thought which may help you narrow the field: Do you want a sailing dingy like the Laser or do you want a day-sailing sailboat on which you can take out a few guests?

You can take out physically fit guests on the Hobies, but the sailing performance suffers dramatically with a bit too much crew weight. The J-boats and H33 still maintain good performance with more bodies aboard.

Looking for something like a dinghy, don't care for crew or bells and whistles, just a simple and fast boat to singlehand.
Thanks!

Moth . One sail, nothing to it. Plus it's fast as all get out.

Seriously though

laser,
420 (without the kite) is doable single handed.
Fin
Musto skiff
A-Cat
International canoe
Laser Vago
Swift solo (but you pretty much have to build one)

Re: Looking for a daysailer

For cats that would likely be Hobies or Nacras. Simple, fast, and typically sailed single or double handed.
