Long Island Sound

Hi Friends,
Looking for suggestions for an out and back four day trip from Port Washington
Done Block Island many times. Been to Oyster Bay, Port Jefferson,
and Mattituck so looking for something new
Thinking of maybe Mystic CT.
Cheers

Re: Long Island Sound

If you really like boats, and the history of boatbuilding, Mystic is a great destination. Nantucket is also nice- quaint and old. A stop in at Greenport is also worth an afternoon.

How big and fast the boat? Port Washington to Martha's Vineyard took us 25 hrs nonstop one time. Normally takes us a day to port Jeff unless you want to push it, then a day to mystic or thereabouts. Northport? Old saybrook? Four days is not a lot...

Re: Long Island Sound

Connecticut River Museum in Essex.

If you go to Mystic, go all the way up river and anchor off the museum, then dinghy ashore. Also take your dinghy south to the Mystic draw bridge (tie up at town park on eastern shore just below the bridge) and walk around downtown Mystic.

Stonington is another great Harbor to visit.

Watch Hill also. It's a long entry through a narrow channel in Little Narragansett Bay. Anchor behind Napatree point and dinghy ashore to town or the Napatree beach.

Gardeners Bay has great day sailing - and is surrounded by great harbors: 3 Mile Harbor, Greenport, Sag Harbor, Dehring Harbor, Coecles Harbor. Skip Montauk Harbor its overrun by sport fishing and people who smoke.

Re: Long Island Sound

Thanx for all suggestions
Trip has been put off to last week September
or first week October.
We are going to Port Jeff then to Mattituck
and back. Short days and the foibles of
Eldridge combined with the desire for a nice late season,
uevenfull trip led us to this plan.
Boat is an IP 27, two experienced crew
maybe one novice.
Cheers
Neil
