Yea I've thought about the cockpit drain but was concerned the result might be more down the leg than down the drain.

Back on the subject here.

I have been reading this thread and I have to wonder how:

Being in an Anchorage and getting hit by a power boat going 100 mph with a captain that is both drunk and tripping is anywhere close to being in the way of a boat doing 20 knots while hove to and lights blazing on deck.

First rule is boat under sail has right of way. I know in a Utopian society this would actually work but a boat hove to does maybe a knot or two if that.

So if I am down below with lights blazing on deck and having a good sleep hove to in calm seas. Then a boat under power comes along and smacks me with a crew of four or more how am I at fault again? And let's face it if the seas are ten feet I'm not getting a lot of sleep. I'm in the middle of something I need to be at the helm in.

I understand that we are all responsible to be safe but I don't understand how I am going to damage anything hove to in the middle of a calm sea and going 4 miles and hour at best. Please ! Enlighten me!

Well, if the sea is calm you are unlikely to lay hove to.

If you are asleep than you do not know if your lights are blazing or just went out.

If you are down below, you are not keeping proper watch.

The bigger issue is such things like to add up.

Now imagine a showery moonless night, you asleep, lights went out, and then BANG comes my little ship out of the drizzle (reduced visibility) and I crash into your ship.

Unlikely.

Were it to happen I would both sue you and kick your ass.
