Log Book and Anchor Apps for Android

Any good recommendations for a Log Book and Anchor Watch app for Android?

Don't use an android log book, but I'm very happy with Anchor Alert by SlimJim.

I use anchor pro all the time, works fine for me except it won't remind you to turn it off when you grab the mobile and jump in the dingy

Can't help with a logbook, I run a Raspberry Pi with openplotter which has the wonderful OpenCpn konni logbook plug in, plus sends a load of data to the tablet, AIS, GPS plus with a few sensors engine temperature and battery voltage. The combination works really well.

Re: Log Book and Anchor Apps for Android

Thinking about the log book thing...

My cell phone has built-in GPS, and obviously knows the time. There's the starting point of a log - time and location.

Connected to the Vesper AIS (or just about any new chartplotter which comes with WiFi capabilities) I can also get a bunch of NMEA data.

All an app would need would be the ability to add time-stamped manual entries in free-form text, and maybe some dedicated data-entry forms for entering routine things like fuel added, maintenance tasks performed, engine hours, etc.

You could have an incredibly detailed log of every moment of every voyage. Sort of like Google's "My Timeline" and whatever it is Apple calls their spying-on-you thing.

Usually by the time I think of something like this, there are 10 different apps someone else has already developed. Anyone know of one?

I use Anchor Pro as my primary which is pretty nice. I use DragQueen as my backup, it's much simpler as far as configuration options but it uses lot more battery power given the way it runs. Both need external power for your device. I run one on my phone and the other on my tablet.

I've thought of this too but I don’t think there’s a market for it. I don’t think it would generate enough income to warrant the initial decelopment effort let alone the subsequent updates.

I thought I heard Drag Queen was discontinued. I tried it (on Android) and while I had no specific complaint, I just never used it much.

Re: Log Book and Anchor Apps for Android

Anchor Lite issued a warning recently that the latest Android OS disables the GPS when the phone goes to sleep. In short, it rendered it useless. Anyone encountered this with other apps - is it just an attempt to upsell by Anchor Lite? Worked well until then.
