'Robbery', to be a robber, you have to rob 'someone', as in a person, no person, no robbery.

Stealing, it may be, thief maybe, robbery, no it ain't.

Close as I can find to a pirate

Actually robbery is the act of larceny by force or intimidation. It can be against a person or place. If he broke into the vessel , he committed robbery, if he required no force he committed larceny

Seems like a personal problem and your loss.

If some low-life scum wants to steal stuff from a boat that has dragged up on a reef, I don't give a sh!t, but you have to look yourself in the mirror.

So how long does it need to rust there before it's fair game?
And for your info my morals are 100%. Please don't question my integrity. I haven't accused you of anything.

If you wish to salvage it according to rules of the Bahamas, it's entirely legal, otherwise nothing is " fair game ". Where are we, Hollywood , the Wild West. Does age justify theft. ???

Hey Dave,

What did the bank 'Robber' say to the cashier when he found out there was no money to rob?

Should you declare 'bankruptcy'!

Get it? Too funny. Lol, I just crack me up.
Seriously, I do.

Re: Last pictures of Primadonna

Not sure how it works in the Bahamas, but in the UK, wrecks on our coastline are administered by the Receiver of Wrecks.
One of their duties is to prevent theft (looting)
You can remove stuff from a wreck, but it must be reported to the RoW, who will then act as a arbitrator (in simple terms)
Last big profile case was the containership Napoli.

Other than that, like Dave says, its pure thieving, and there is no moral high ground based on the actions of the boats owners.

I want a pirate smilie! Why arnt there any pirate smilies, given it's a boaty forum.

Re: Last pictures of Primadonna

Ted, what those "salvagers" did meets the technical definition of piracy. Though the vessel had run aground, it was still nominally at sea. At least as far as the legal and technical definitions go. So looting the vessel, by law, would be considered an act of piracy.

If you go to Bahamas Conclusions | The Life NomadikThe Life Nomadik scroll down to "Bahamas Facts" you will find the following:
Security: one of the safest cruising grounds. Except near Nassau, you can leave the boat unlocked at any time and be sure that nothing will go missing. If you visit a settlement and you lose something, it will be returned to you."

Robbery, stealing, piracy, or whatever you want to call it, they took things that didn't belong to them. I hope the Bahamas police are reading their blog!

Well Dave, let me set you straight as you seem confused. The boat in question is near booby cay, Bahamas. Age does have a lot to do with it. If no one is ever going to come back for it, then it's been abandoned. And if it's abandoned, it's fair game.
That's the big issue, coming back or abandoned?
In your mind it should sit there forever, completely intact, waiting for it's owners to return? Delusional at best. At least I can admit that both of us are probably wrong.

Dave, I love how you yanks convert everything to your own country. Hope I'm not being offensive, don't mean to be. I mean maple syrup, now don't get me started on maple syrup. You know how I know your a yank dave? Cause you said 'larceny', only used in the good old USofA and NSW in Australia. But anyway, I'm getting side tracked.

The boAt was in the barhamas, which means you got to quote their law. It just so happens that section 339 of the penal code identifies what 'robbery' is, and if you check the definitions, (handy little things them definitions), you will find that robbery must have a person who is 'robbed'..

So, Robbery', it ain't...

Re: Last pictures of Primadonna

I recall when we were in the Bahamas a few years ago, this wreck was on the rocks between the Majors near Staniel Cay. Word was that it had washed up there a couple of years earlier in a hurricane. It was well snagged on the ironshore, but half in the water, and it groaned all night as waves moved it around.

One afternoon a guy came by with his tool box and removed some stuff . . . mast track and a winch, I think.

At the time it didn't strike me as theft, just recycling. And it seems in a different league from the recent scavenging off of Primadonna.

But where does the line get drawn? Is there any clear time limit as to when a grounding becomes a wreck . . . becomes wreckage scattered on the sea bottom?

I'd love to see you try that argument on a judge! Lol. By your reasoning, you can steal anything you want from a house with no repurcations as long as no one is home. Because if they weren't there, how could you possibly have robbed them? Lol. This argument is solid proof that a little knowledge is in fact a very dangerous thing.

I'm a yank and resent being grouped with Dave, his yank card is being revoked.
Maple syrup, yup I brought 2 gallons to the Bahamas this year.
