Landsick After Cruise - How Much Longer?

will this phantom boat keep rocking and rolling?

I had an injury on our first day out that stuck me high in the stern perches to keep out of trouble (and thus exposed to a bunch more motion than anyone else on the boat), now on day three back from the cruise I'm still very much on the boat, or at least my inner ear is. I'm glad that the floor and pavement undulating has stopped, but I'm pretty tired of all the imaginary movement. How long does this generally go on post-cruise?

The motion will stop after a day or two....

.... the land sickness never does for some of us. Only cure is to avoid long periods of exposure..

Most cruisers can learn to walk on land, but you may never be able to sleep in a bed that doesn't move.

In addition to what s/v Faith said, don't let "harbor rot" get you.

Quiz: What famous sailor coined the term "harbor rot" and what was the name of his vessel?

regards,

Sleeping on Land

Just to agree with a previous poster: Once you are comfortable sleeping under way...or just on the hook for that matter; sleeping ashore never quite provides the same quality of rest.
One possibility...um, perhaps a bit strange... is that humans need movement. Rocking a baby to sleep is an example. Lots of skin contact also is known to (eventually) provide the 'security' for relaxed rest.
Its an interesting subject...I will hope there is a psy pro that can shed some light on this out there??

I've been ashore five years now, and I miss it every day.

Hoping for the best

Thanks for the responses!

Well, the rocking is lessening a bit daily, so I'm really hoping to be firmly ashore very soon. I had better be, as my culinary classes restart next week, and I'm certain lurching about on my imaginary sailboat while holding a very sharp chef's knife will make me wildly unpopular!

Husband finds it all amusing, and likes to turn on some music and "dance" with me to the swaying of my inner vessel.

Sacrificing Tomatos? You'll get your landlegs soon. Your husband has quite a sense of humor or is he just teasing you?

I2F Good guess but nope. He's pretty famous for cruising guides of the Caribbean. Has written some very informative books. Crusty old gentleman who had his crew sort nuts and bolts if he couldn't find anything else for them to do.

regards

sacra-
Take some seasickness meds, now. They work equally well on "landsickness".

It just means that your body got used to the "normal" motion at sea, and just as it was slow to get used ot that change in motion, it is slow to get used to the next change in motion--back on still land.

Same problem, same meds, same solution.
