Kemah, TX info needed

I will truck my boat to the Texas Gulf Coast this fall to finish fitting out. My research indicates that Kemah is the best place for availability of chandleries, boatyards, etc. I need suggestions for a liveaboard marina for my 27 foot boat. Bear in mind that I'm so cheap I can squeeze a nickel till Thomas Jefferson faints.

Three come to mind, the wharf, marina del sol, and legend point. MDS has floating docks, the other two are fixed.

Thanks but those marinas don't allow liveaboards smaller than 32' which is a problem with many marinas around Clear Lake.

I remember reading about a DIY boat yard with an adjacent anchorage in the area. Anyone know about this? Living on the hook might be a better idea for me.

You are thinking of Clear Lake Marine center. There are some long term( non cruiser) live aboard anchored across from them. Supermarket and restaurants across the street. BUT...the north side of the lake can be rough with the prevailing southerlies and in the winter you will be bouncing on the bottom with every cold front blowing the water out of the bay. And then there is the high speed weekend traffic. I have anchored outside the channel by Seabrook shipyard on occasion, same problems. Try Blue Dolphin marina, I found them reasonably priced and pleasant as far as marinas can be. Also, check out the docks behind Seabrook Classic cafe and the Turtle Club.
