Just When I Thought I'd Seen It All ...
...some fellow pulled into a neighboring slip with a large Protector RIB with twin 150 hp outboards AND A BOW THRUSTER. (!!)
On an inflatable!
And this guy needed to use the thruster extensively to park in an empty 90' slip when there was no wind or current with which to contend.
That was Saturday. It's now Monday, and I'm still shaking my head.

That's the future

He'd probably just read a "safety" thread on CF and was practising abandoning ship.

I have read many safety threads here and decided that I will not abondon ship unless she abandons me and I am not going to practise that senario.

Especially all he wanted to buy was a box of Tampax.

Re: just when I thought I'd seen it all...
Bash, you cynic you. Really, you've got to open your eyes and consider what you aren't seeing.
That guy happens to sell bow thrusters. He's a traveling salesman, just like poor old Willy Loman, and if you've ever spent ten or twelve hours walking the docks, dragging around your sample kit with a full-sized bow thruster in it, you'd have more sympathy for the poor guy.
So here he's invested all his earnings in fitting up the biggest RIB he could afford, so he can show people how the damned thing actually works, and you come around and belittle all that hard effort by thinking he's some putz that can't drive a boat.
Do you have any idea how long he practiced that routine, to get people to come on down and see how the bow thruster can push anything all over the place? The man's working his butt off trying to scare up a crowd and make a couple of sales, and you poke fun at him. Really. Come by on a Saturday night, that's when he ignites diesel fuel on the water and shows you how easy it is to avoid the burning patches--IF you have a bow thruster.
Now go over, buy him a cold drink, and think about how badly you need one of them bow thrusters on your own boat. After all, Willy has a quota to meet, and he can't do it without your help.
:-)

Re: just when I thought I'd seen it all...
The twin outboards have forward gears only (he got a deal on 'em).....therefore, he needs the thruster to manuever.......

The guy probably has a car that parallel parks itself, as well. A gadget man.

Re: just when I thought I'd seen it all...
Dont be so mean! Occasionally trailer park people come into money and, lets face it, they have to spend it somewhere. A bow thruster is something that billyjojimbob may have always wanted on gramps old tinny- Now he can have it on his RIB instead.
