Is this the future of sailing?

Not in my lifetime, thank God. I'm all for experiments but to me it is the beauty of sail which sustains the majority of enthusiasts. The romance of sail is not evident in that pea green wing-a-ma-jig.

i don't know, wings seem to good upto about Mach 3 it seems.

The small wing on top is called a "servo tab" on an airplane. Most all large aircraft use this method of controlling the elevator. Same concept as the wind vane steering in a sailboat. The small rudder makes enough force to move the big rudder.

That's cause the turbo fell down and nearly killed him.

It could be. If we end up going back to sail powered ships, it's possible they'll have wingsails on them.

So glad you posted. I saw it (or something similar) going past Treasure Island last week. It looks like a self-steering wind vane. They certainly could have picked a better sail color than lime green.
