I have a long memory for quotes like that!

I hope to run in to you somewhere where the bar is open.

I'll buy the second if you'll buy the third!

Re: Is There a Caste System in Sailing?

This thread takes me back to the 60's on the west coast of Canada. We had a Senator by the name of Gordon Gibson Sr who was quite a boater around Vancouver but he had a hugh affinity for Hawaii, so much so he bought a hotel. He took great delight in puttering around the garden of his hotel in a daggy old pair of shorts, sandals and a worn shirt. Many guests came up to him to ask directions to restaurants, the pool area or the nearest bar and several treated him with some disdain. In the evening he could be found in his evening attire or tux and these same guests would look at him wierdly knowing they recognized him but not putting the whole thing together. He used to take great delight in engaging these folks in conversation and finally when the penny dropped in their mind where they had met him, they were usually taken completely aback. How he loved to tell those stories. Very 'down to earth' gentleman who always had time for a hello and a kind word for those not as fortunate as he. In those days I was rail meat for one his friends who was into racing big time. Phil

Re: Is There a Caste System in Sailing?

We were so poor we couldn't afford any water for the swimming pool, so we swam in it empty.

An empty swimming pool?! You were lucky! When I were a lad, we all wished we had an empty swimming pool. What we wouldn't have given for an EMPTY SWIMMING POOL!

All we had to swim in were shallow puddles filled with excrement!

Hell, we were so poor we had to walk the 20 miles to school in knee deep snow with only newspapers wrapped around our feet, we couldn't afford shoes.

And that was in the summer! Ya shoulda seen the winters!

We were so poor that we had to take jobs as zombies!

The dying and coming back part wasn't so bad, but they dropped us off in Washington, DC, and there wasn't a single damn brain to eat!

A 14-foot mini-cruiser is minimalist. A 19ft is comfortable, and anything much larger than a 25 borders on ostentatious.
