I agree with Ann. It is not a PC thing but an important initial decision which should be weighted towards the person with the most experience and commitment.

In my case… the boat and my pelagic lifestyle predated relationships, so it was an obvious stated condition when discussing a serious relationship with a girl.

I found that while attracted to the idea of cruising, some could not come to grips with the reality of boat compromises after one or two years. If you also happen to have the resources to offer them a comfortable life in the suburbs and trade down to weekend sailing, that can and did raise its ugly head.

So in choosing your partner, I recommend you let him/her choose what is important to them based on what their dreams and life priorities are.

If they don’t align with yours, the size of boat or color of pillows will not help but will only delay the inevitable.

I love looking at sailing and sailboat pics. They never get old. Thank you for sharing your 'not a man cave' beautiful boat. You might get hailed someday if we cross wakes. I intend to get up to the bridge in the photo in the next few years.

Here is an older pic of my non cave. If I liked caves I'd take up spelunking! This reminds me I need to take some new pics after the snow melts.

This thread is turning out to be quite fun! There seems to be a healthy level of admissions around here that, whether it's called a 'cave' or whatever, there's a real need to ensure the Admiral is happy.

Those of us aspiring to some modest level of understanding of what might (!?) keep the admiral happy will include many who now find their caves/vessels decorated with cushions!! Perhaps SaltyMonkey in in this group...or perhaps sailcruiser as well? We're well-and-truly in that group.

The admiral here takes the attractive surroundings theme a step further. She enjoys designing her own cushions...and they are now being enjoyed on more and more vessels! No fishy shapes for us, but plenty of very beautiful nautical images...

i dunno about seeing sea shells 24/7/365.....nice for a part time cruising life, but,...gimme just plain color---or finger paint..might do that for my next repaint of some of my interior ply surfaces....

i find if the scenery is too busy inside boat i wont like it much..i try to keep it simple--but i am getting into this finger paint for color idea---could well work...

those sea shells are pretty---is just me-- i is different than most folks...LOL

I'm not sure. The first things that came to mind were beer and rum, both of which were OK with me. But then the thought came of a narrow rocky cliff with waves crashing into, and this one didn't sound as good to me in regard to boats.

With such vessels you are getting away from the man cave vessel type and certainly more 2nd half friendly even if at a cost, a good thing but not necessarily for some. There is a review of a Hunter 50 in current Australian Cruising Helmsman magazine, a comfortable roomy vessel to be based in Tasmania.

As previous poster indicated Nicholson 58 indicated some couples wish to spend their retirement vovaging in some comfort not camping, with ability to cater for friends or family for periods. A man cave is not suitable for this.

Not knocking man cave style vessels as they certainly have a place but they are not suitable for all.

Actually, my wife hates Hunters. She doesn't like the external lines of the hull. She says they look too fat.

Point being that your wife's opinion is critical, but don't assume you know what it is until you've sailed a lot of boats together

smb--i imagine the basic white epoxy paint, dry, then use bright colored latex paints and fingerpaint so the result is a peel away color splash that is changeable when mood strikes, ....or not.....
using gloves, of course...
