Insurance for Grenada / Rio Dulce

I’m trying to get insurance to sail the Carribean and leave my boat in either Rio Dulce or Grenada for the storm months. Having a hard time. One company will let me sail there all year, but I can’t store the boat outside USA. A second company won’t deal with yachts less than $300,000. A third company excludes Grenada and Rio as being in the hurricane zone.

I could use Trinidad this year but next year I planned on hauling in Rio. I don’t want to change plans every year. I’ve explained this to the broker but it doesn’t seem to sink in. They send me plans excluding these places.

What insurance companies are you guys using?

Maybe you need to deal with a different broker. There are lots of decent brokers available. We've had good dealings with Novamar and been able to get terms modified to meet our requirements

I went with a policy via IMIS this year because they found me a great rate. Have used ORM in prior recent years. Boat has been in W Carib icluding Rio Dulce for hurricane season.

So far

GEICO requires storage is USA
MARKEL excludes Grenada and Rio Dulce
ADMIRAL won’t write to USA boats
PANTAENOUS won’t write under $300,000

I'm not sure about fully comprehensive insurance but certainly for 3rd party for single handed they have insured me for the last 6 years for approx £250pa for a £40,000 yacht.

Like Paul L., we have used Novamar for our 7 year circle around the world which we just completed. They have been very good about working with us each year to accommodate our desired navigational limits. We worked with Craig Chamberlain at craig@novamar.net.
