If you will be coming to the Annapolis sailboat show

For anyone who is planning to attend we're helping organize a fun fundraiser for sailors with disabilities the night before the show opens. Below are details. What isn't mentioned is, there are lots of door prizes including gift certificates from online marine supplier, etc. I've been working with CRAB for 12 years now and these folks are really special. Their boat annual show parties are fun too.

Proceeds will support the Chesapeake Region Accessible Boating’s (C.R.A.B.) sailing programs.

Lin and Larry Pardey are a married couple famous internationally for their expertise in small boat sailing. They have sailed more than 185,000 miles together, having circumnavigated the world both eastabout and westabout. They have also sailed westabout (against the prevailing winds) past all the great southern capes, including Cape Horn. Larry built the two boats they used for two circumnavigations. Both boats were under 30 feet and were designed by Lyle Hess. Neither boat had an engine (except for an outboard on the dinghy which they carried on board Taleisin). They have also delivered race boats and charter boats. Together, they have written eleven books and created two VHS tapes and four DVDs.

Adventurer Matt Rutherford is the first person in history to complete a 27,077 mile, non-stop, single-handed, voyage around North and South America. Rutherford left Annapolis, Md. on June 2011 and traversed some of the most dangerous seas on Earth. During the first leg of his trek, Rutherford broke a record by singlehandedly sailing the smallest boat in history through the Northwest Passage. Once through this northern passage, Rutherford sailed around the entire state of Alaska then south through the Pacific Ocean from North to South America to make his left-hand turn at storm-tossed Cape Horn and completing his record-breaking journey in 309 days.

Chesapeake Region Accessible Boating (CRAB) is a nonprofit organization based in Annapolis, Maryland, that provides opportunities for people with physical and developmental challenges to experience boating on the Chesapeake Bay. Founded by Don Backe in 1991, CRAB maintains a fleet of Freedom Independence 20 sloops, which are designed specifically for use by mobility-challenged persons. To learn more about CRAB, visit:
