Ideal draft for Sea of Cortez

Long time lurker first post so....... thanks in advance for your help!

We are in early stages of planning a transition year cruise from PNW to Sea of Cortez (SOC) Our current boat (j109) draws 7’ and at times can be limiting. Any recommendations for ideal draft for SOC? It’s killing us to think we may need a different boat for this adventure but if we do we will need time to sort it out.

Thanks again for your insight.

Re: Ideal draft for Sea of Cortez

We spent a couple of years cruising the SOC with a draft of 7'2" and never had any issues due to draft.

Re: Ideal draft for Sea of Cortez

Other than carefully keeping to the dredged channel entering La Paz, 5-7 ft draft boats should fare similarly in the southern SOC
