I think your example refers to the political elite more than the rich. Ironically, many of these political elite profess to be fighting for the "little guy."

I don't know any people on the dole who get in much trouble for cheating someone or the system for small amounts of money, or working part time "under the table," and in fact I know countless people (some relatives) who have done it their whole life. But I am employed (airline captain) and know that if I had ANY criminal record, in addition to the fines and punishment, I'd also lose my job and paycheck, so I think you need to be a little more careful about where you're looking if you really want to claim to see the whole picture.
But WHAT in the world does all this have to do with sailing?

I was in Oriental when all this was going on. I have since left and I'm currently in Saint Augustine. I will certainly keep a lookout for the boat. I remembered seeing the boat anchored out and it's hard to miss... It sure is an ugly boat. I would imagine someone will spot them along the ICW near Georgetown, Charleston, or savannah. Just curious if there has been any updates as to where they were after getting to Morehead City?

Granted, I don't have a whole lot of experience as a deadbeat on the lam in a sailboat without a working engine in a foreign country, but if I were them, I think I'd head for the Bahamas. Sailing back to France across the North Atlantic this time of year even with an engine would be way too dangerous, and staying in the ICW without an engine, always needing a tow, would make it too easy to find me. But, you never know, they could be anywhere.

Me thinks ... finding them and seizing the boat would force them to go home using safe means, and would be good for them too ... a humanitarian act of sorts that takes them out of their misery.

Let's be honest ... they have no means to fix the engine, make the boat seaworthy again, get provisions and prep for Atlantic voyage. They will continue to stay near marinas and shipping lanes scavenging and begging, scamming when they must, and getting into even bigger trouble. This is not going to end up well unless they pack and go home by airplane.

How in the world did this thread about finding 2 particular deadbeats on a sailboat who ripped off a guy turn into a discussion about rich versus poor and who is more dishonest? Why? Are there any sailors out there who would prefer to discuss things at least remotely related to sailing?
How funky is this? I am interested when someone uses terms like "I this" and "I that" when feeling that they are correct, then when something like this study comes to light it goes from "I this" and "I that" to "were all" and "we all" , after saying all this it goes to "how in the world" did this thread diverge from the original discussion,"we" only want to discuss the off the mark stuff when it suits us and make sure "We" get the focus off of "us" as soon as "we" say what "we" have to say" as in the above statments.. The whole thread deals with "dishonesty" ,had you left the first paragraph off and just wrote the second one it would have been more poignant, "I" feel...Not trying to be ugly, just amused at the way my comment about the rag article was taken by some folks...

Oh you don't know what you are missing, there is nothing like spring razor clams freshly dug, thick fat bacon, half & half, onions, thai basil, and some secret ingrediants I can't tell upon pain of death.

pirate Re: ICW "Pirates". Have you Seen?

As has been stated, most threads answer the question in the first coupla of pages, and these furriner deadbeats have been discussed ad nauseum at http://www.cruisersforum.com/forums/...light=oriental, so as time goes on, threads drift. What's the frickin'n harm Capn JT? Many times the drifts are better than the strictly sailin' stuff. And, there's obviously the dreaded Ignore Button to employ.

These folks are bad Ju Ju. I'd bet they haven't gone far, and certainly not offshore. I haven't seen them yet but a beer says they're still in NC.

I was in Georgetown last weekend by car. Didn't see them. I thought they might go to Ocracoke, but thinking that, checked a cam and no see um. Was curious. And I agree with other posters here. If these folks don't square up and get a flight home, it won't likely end well. People can only help you so much even when you're reasonably honest and diligent, which these two folks haven't shown.

It is sort of like "where's Waldo" isn't it?

Makes you wonder if they can go home. As much as they were unwanted in Oriental, makes you wonder if they might be wanted (by the law) back in the EU. Scammers scam out of compulsion, not out of need. I seriously doubt they were upstanding members of the community back home. Decent people remain decent even when they fall on hard times. A dirtbag will always be a dirtbag.
