Hunter 376

Greetings!

Would love to get the boards opinion on if you all think that a 1997 Hunter 376 (or 37.5) is a boat that could cruise the Caribbean from Tampa, go through the Canal, along the west coast of California..Then the kicker...Cross to Hawaii and back?

We are looking to purchase a boat to do just that under $80k. I know that we'd need to update items before attempting a blue water passage, we could over the time we are cruising. Just want to see what people think of this specific brand/type of boat. Not trying to get into something that looks nice but just doesn't have the durability that we need.

Thanks so much!

Re: Hunter 376

We previously owned a 376 and enjoyed sailing her. Our boat had in-mast furling (which did have some problems). We had planned to take her through the Caribbean when we retired, but the Admiral decided she wanted a bigger boat (for live aboard reasons). With all that said, I believe the 376 is a great coastal cruiser and great to live aboard. As for a pacific crossing, the boat may be capable, but I don't think I would have ever done it. One thing I noticed with that boat was a need to reef early (15 KTs or so) as the boat would be come overpowered and want to round up.
