How Tall is Your Mast?

Not mine, but it looks awfully tall: surely to require the railroad to raise its bridge:

Not sure how tall my mast is, and then there is the VHF antenna and lightning rod:

What's your estimate?

Re: How tall is your mast?

Do you usually raise the sail on your boat? Or primarily motor?

^^^ Dabs,

His avatar says he has a motor vessel, although the bottom pic is surely a motor-sailer.

No idea why those pics accompany the question, either.

Because he likes to put at least one picture in just about every post he makes - usually of his own boat. (I frequently wonder about their relevance)

Re: How tall is your mast?

Mine is 58.5' from the water, which makes the mast around 52'. But when you have to go up the mast it is a LOT taller from either looking up from the bottom or down from the top!

I estimate it's the same ratio as KM to miles... 1.61...

So a 58.5' mast "feels like" 94'-2" at the top..... Sounds about right....

(ps congrats on the Mantus key)

Re: How tall is your mast?

Ann, the way he phrased that last sentence, I assumed that was a photo of his boat.

And it's rigged with a mainsail and a jib, so I'm just wondering how often he raises the sails or if they aren't all that functional.

Mast for me is around 57'.

Re: How tall is your mast?

80 ft main; 48 mizzen. No ICW for us.

The motor sailor probably gets fair help on a reach. It will also help stop the rock & roll.

My boat isn't a motorsailer. It's a sail-assisted motor boat. The hull is pure motor boat. The sails are for increasing stability (reduce roll). With winds from the beam, the sails add about a half-knot assuming the boat isn't at hull/full speed.

I'd welcome hearing your estimates on how tall the mast is.
