B24 -- actually had to go look at the title, within a gnat's eyelash of 45 years old I think... just starting a second, more thorough, redo (since we've had it).

Re: How Old's Your Ride?

My current sailboat is a 1990. My last, smaller, sailboat, was a 1977.

I also have a 1991 center console, and a 1989 dinghy.

Faithful dinghy.

Re: How Old's Your Ride?

Wow, I am kind of surprised by the numbers so far. As of this post, right at 54% of the boats are older than 30 years and just shy of 70% are over 20 years old. I kind of expected the numbers to skew more towards the middle of the options, instead the bell curve seems to be centered right around the 30 year mark or so. I wonder if this says more about the quality of boats built in the 70's, the age of the people sailing them or the budget mindedness of our little group?

One other thing I've noticed is that most of you own smaller boats in the 30' range. This surprises me as well, I was expecting them average to be in the mid 40' range. When we set sail it will be as a family of 4 or 5 with my wife being the lone rose among the thorns so to speak. I am searching in the 50' range to ensure we have enough room to spread out. It would seem most of you have learned to live in a much smaller space.

Tom

Yes, thanks Tom. I too am surprised at the numbers so far. Given all the talk here on CF, I assumed I was the odd-ball. Damn, I hate being "normal."

Here's a pic of our ride:

I was walking through the marina the other day and I came up on one boat that was really odd looking. It just looked odd and I couldn't put my finger on why. It took me a minute to figure out what was so different about it. Then it finally hit me.

It was a brand new boat. I don't think I had ever seen one in the harbor before.
