How Not To Round The Mark

Interesting, funny, and no doubt embarrassing.

Obviously, that boat should have been disqualified.

I'm particularly impressed with the part where they congratulate each other.

Looks like they're happy there was little damage.

I love how the boat heeled over just in time to snag the marker...ooops

So funny to see the mark lifted and carried up in the air. Air Mark.

Just goes to show that odd stuff can happen even to experienced sailors.

Wait I know that trick. It's the same trick we used to use playing tag as a kid where you took the "base" and ran with it so you couldn't get tagged out. I say well done! Now no one else can finish the race because they can't round the mark.

Re: How Not To Round The Mark

I smile but I remember the day I almost caught a tall fairway buoy with the boom topping lift, because the boat heeled at the wrong moment. By luck, the buoy turned and the topping lift was freed.

Re: How Not To Round The Mark

In one race with light winds and a strong current at the start, we took the start mark away by hooking its anchor rode around our keel

I've found that it is a very good strategy (if you are going to be DQd anyway). In this case though they were just a little too obvious.
