Thats just an expression meaning dont abandon ship and take to the life raft until your yacht has gone down.

I hope I never have to do that but it sounds like good advice, considering the number of abandoned boats thst have been found still floating.

I'd rather be in an upside down cat than a liferaft. Anyway, in calm water the cat isn't going to capsize.

My office manager, Big Sharon, a woman no less, offered the following suggestion after laughing her way through the thread.

Why nor stick to boats in the discussion?

She also said of Hoppys comment:

I can just imagine if I said "Big" anybody when referring to a women and I'd probably be picking up my teeth for awhile but hey you Brits get away with this stuff. I'm not so sure a women should be giving the boys hell for thread drift. My wife can be talking about 3 different things at the same time and it upsets her when I can't figure out what she's talking about, LOL.

Actually, no I really don't.

But do you really want to get into a safety debate, after the last couple of years, with the number of mono's that have disappeared without trace, or lost keels, etc etc,... and the number of people who have lost their lives...

On this forum every single multihull incident worldwide is discussed for months, usually with people like you saying that the capsize of a racing tri or whatever proves cruising multihulls are dangerous.

Whereas when yet another mono disappears taking with it all it's crew, we're usually respectful enough to not say anything.

We dont "get away" with anything. If you take hard look around, political correctness has destroyed the art of honest conversation. Big Shaz is called that because she is the boss. Its the mark of respect. She is also slighly "fluffy" (what is that crap?) and is loved by eveyone. She also is wise enough to let me think Im the boss but the reality differs. Example..

"Go ask Doc G if its ok to do XXX or save time and sort it out with Big Shaz"

Patients refer to her as Big Sharon. Kids come in and ask for Mrs Big Sharon to take blood because she is gentle.

Now Big Jodrells in the Chip shop is a different matter. She is big,,,, and called Jodrells after Jodrell Bank the British Observatory for 'listening' to outer space.. Big J hears everything and uses it against you.... say nothing in B J's presence.

USA, Caribbean, South America (with a few notable exceptions) shall be followed by a canal transit.
