How far from Marco to Key West, Florida?

I don't have my charts with me and I need to know the rumb line distance between Marco Island and Key West (in nm, please). Could anyone tell me, or direct me to a website where I could find out? I also need the distance between Key West and Bimini, Bahamas; George Town, Bahamas and Bermuda; and Azores to the SW corner of Portugal. Much appreciated.

Hi SeaGypsyWoman.

It's a little contrived, but you can always look up a location in an online encyclopedia to find its lattitude and longitude (or do a Google search for your desired locations including the words "lattitude" and "longitude").

Once you know the lattitude and longitude of your starting point and destination, you can then use a site like this one:

http://www.geocities.com/CapeCanaveral/2265/gcsail.htm

This is how I usually calculate rough distances without a chart.

Hope this helps.

Hello

If you can get it, several marine retailers carry a CDROM copy of Nobletech's eChart Planner. It is $10. It contains a pretty decent base chart for the entire world and has enough functionality built in such that you could do some plotting and find distances etc. For $10 it is really quite useful for planning purposes.

Hope this helps

I knew that!

Thanks everyone, that's great. If this forum wasn't here I think I'd probably figure it out eventually - getting lazy that's all - wanted nice numbers in reply without doing any work myself. But you didn't let me get away with it.

You could also do a (Free) download of "Google Earth". (http://earth.google.com/) Once you install the program click on Tools – Measure – Path. Then click on your waypoints and it will give you the distance.
