That's funny. Don't be afraid of them?? Sure, just figure out of they're yellow jackets or not. If you bump the nest and the whole swarm comes after you, then they must be yellow jackets. (don't do that)

Or when you open a box where they are hiding. I used to believe what you said until I opened an electrical box and bam! A paper wasp got me right on the nose.
