how do i finance a cruiser outside of the US

(I searched previous posts but didn't find anything relevant - so here I go)

Finally found a boat and am ready to make the next move - purchase.

I need to finance it but am running into some complications as the boat is in Martinique and it is not a US Documented vessel. Owned by a foreigner.

Has anyone worked with a bank that is willing to lend in this type of situation?

I have great credit and the 20% down so I would be financing apx 200k. I don't want to refinance by house as I plan to sell it next year. So I'm looking for a just a boat loan.

Ask the current boat-owner to finance?


Also, why wouldn't you refinance your house, if you're going to sell it next year? Get an open mortgage, or 1 yr closed, and the proceeds from the sale will wipe it out. It would be lower interest than a boat loan.

I hadn't given much consideration in refinancing my house, but that is an idea. I guess I was looking forward to sticking that money in the "Keep us Sailing for a long time fund".
