The S/V KaySea.

Kay=K=Kenny, Sea=C=Chris. KC=KaySea.

It's female-esque, it's meaningful, and it's totally original!
I like it, simple with particular meaning to you. Are we invited to the offering to Neptune? You certainly are welcome to mine.

Only if you bring rum. It'll be a combined "stock the bar & renaming" ceremony!

Re: How did you choose your boat name?

I had a whole list of potential names including puns, deities, animals, family in-jokes.

The seven rules for me.
1) Must be easy for most people to pronounce, whatever their native language. A friend's family had a boat called "Warm Thoughts" which sailed mostly in France. Nice name but tricky if you don't speak English. It doesn't translate terribly well either.

2) No more than 2 syllables and six letters. You have to spell this on the radio.

3) Not a pun e.g. Knot Shore. I confess my racing Hobie cat was called "About a Buoy".

4) Not likely to annoy or even interest "The Revenue" e.g. Offshore Account, Duty Free, Tax Haven.

5) Not a tongue twister for your self. When exhausted, wet, in the dark, being jolted by waves saying "Yacht Laurebelle" three times was as tricky to say over the radio to the coastguard as "Red Lorry, Yellow Lorry"

6) Having to explain the name in a very long convoluted story. OK, if it takes you no more than a sentence and you don't mind.

7) Be original, please. There must be at least five boats in our current marina called "Puffin".

She is SIERRA TANGO ECHO BRAVO INDIA NOVEMBER.
Means "Steel Built in Newcastle". If we ever make that tender we planned it will be called "ALBIS" for Aluminium Built In Shed.

Re: How did you choose your boat name?

My first boat was an 18' cutter rigged sloop, very traditional. I repainted the hull black, the deck and cabin where painted in brown tones. When I was done it looked like an acorn, so "ACORN".

Years later I purchased a 24' gaff rigged cutter with fiberglass over plywood, hull and decks. The glass on the decks needed to be replaced I was new to fiberglassing but figured it can't be hard. Long story short after several/each attempt I would painstakingly sand it down and do it again. Eventually it worked and the boat went in the water with the name "40 GRIT"

My next boat was built in Victoria, British Columbia in 1911. A cutter rigged yawl, 38' overall and beautiful. A real lady so "VICTORIA"

I presently have two boats a 27 Sea Sport Navigator I named "OTIS MAXIMUS" or Otis for short and a 1962 Islander 32 that I've had for several years that has no name. I just can't think of one!

Re: How did you choose your boat name?

How people choose a name for a boat or anything is always very interesting. We chose our dog to be named "Toaster Oven" - yes there's a reason - but the kids use Toto for short
