Hanging the Hammock

Just got my wife a much desired hammock for Christmas from the "Hangout Place" on Vancouver's Granville Island. We have looked at a number of ways to hang them on the sailboat, but I seem to like the "main halliard to headstay," Whereupon lies the burning question: Hows yours hanging?

WE hung the hammock from a spare halyard and then attached the blue line to pull it clear of the mast. I think she's hanging rather nicely.

My alltime best hammock position was across my center cockpit where I was able to reach the buttons for my autopilot without so much reach as to cause my arm to "go to sleep" from lack of circulation. It takes some tweaking, but it's possible.

I sling mine under the spinnaker pole. No good under way, but great at anchor.

Man, I live in my hammock. Call me "Hammock-khan". I hang it athwart the back of the cockpit in the shade and up in the breeze coming through the dodger (catamaran). I read, nap, eat lunch, talk on the radio, take cocktails, have audiences with visitors and give ship orders to the crew (although she doesn't fully accept my authority) - all from the hammock. I am looking into catheterization to increase the all-day hammock goodness factor. I come down to eat dinner and go to bed for the night, only to return in the morning...

We hang ours between the mast (attached to the whisker pole d-loop) and the forestay. We also occassionally use a hammock chair hung from either a spare headsail halyard or out over the water off the emd of the boom.
