sean, I discovered the problems of a normal VHF installation when I had to rescue somebody when I was out singlehanding in a bit of bad weather.

It was impossible to talk to the coastguard and control the boat.

To give some idea of the conditions, in order to stay alongside the man in the water, I was using full astern on a 27hp engine.

The next week I had installed an extension speaker and extended the microphone lead so I could operate it with ease from the helm.
