Make the most of the predicted calm.

All subject to change.
Planning a similar route for Feb; probably clear in at the Berries then over to Eleuthera.

Re: Gulf Stream Crossing Weather

Going to try again tomorrow I think.

Leave Lake Worth early afternoon.

Head south and eventually east.

Check in at Morgan’s Bluff.

Reassess at noon before actually picking up the anchor.

How is check in at Morgan's Bluff? (Ive anchored there, just not cleared).

Really want to get back to Andros and explore more, but I think a small power cat is the right boat for that (fortunately a buddy in Ft Laud has one).

Not a clue, just know it’s supposed to be possible.

Ah, it read like a familiar statement so assumed you had cleared there before. It is listed as a port of entry.

Did you cross today? There were about 9 boats in total that came in today.

Seas were very quiet this morning (from what I could see).

Re: Gulf Stream Crossing Weather

We left Lake Worth Tuesday afternoon. Slow slog looking for the space between bucking ENE winds and stream.
Crossed onto the banks at Great Isaac. On the nose but little swell.
Then down to Morgan’s Bluff, we arrived about 8m.
Anchored out, rolly.
Moved up under Beach this am and checked in.

Another couple crossed from further south in a lagoon and came in NE Providence channel said they had 30-40 on the nose. They arrived yesterday afternoon.

Re: Gulf Stream Crossing Weather

We're under way as I write, near Jupiter, from Vero.

Wind apparent at about 30 degrees all the time which means it's still essentially S, but currently very light as we motorsail at 5.6 into a 10 knot wind.

Supposedly it will clock soon and we'll be able to turn into the gulf stream, aiming for the little Bahamas banks.

When we do I'll lose my connection, but so far, asid from the vast annoyance of having to motor, it's pretty uneventful.

Easy. Another couple were a couple of minutes ahead of us. They called Customs, we waited at the little Loop restaurant (no seeum central) until Customs and immigration arrived. Went to their little trailer, all very pleasant and professional.

Between downpours and bugs we didnít see much, I donít think there is much to see.

Re: Gulf Stream Crossing Weather

We staged at Ft. Pierce, waiting for better conditions to cross, after our trip from Vero.

We left at about 8PM last night, and had the anchor down at Grand Cay at 4PM today. Sailing was not uncomfortable but very annoying, as it was either motorsailing into a 30į headwind of 20 plus knots (of which 5 were ours) or motorsailing dead downwind, with lots of rock-and-roll due to the following sea, and the potential for a crash jibe (where the boom violently swaps sides as the wind goes from one side to the other astern). Motorsailing is far down on our list of things we love to do, as weíre a sailboat, and motoring is noisy and expensive (relatively)...

That aside it was a marvelous trip (tinyurl.com/flyingpigspotwalla)

Chris Parker advised us on the ideal time to leave, and from his most recent forecasts, the window to cross has now slammed shut for an extended period of time.

Re: Gulf Stream Crossing Weather

We checked in at Grand Cay last year.

We have been exclusively motor sailing and are ATM. Trying to make Georgetown before the next rather robust Northerly or two.

Good on ya Skip.

Re: Gulf Stream Crossing Weather

Great crossing today from Lauderdale to Lucaya. 3 to 5 footers sometimes, but on the port quarter all the way. Forecast of 15 kts NW was bang on with it clocking to N by late afternoon, by then we were in the lee of Grand Bahama in NW Channel and conditions flattened out a bit but the waves stayed on port quarter. Perfect!
Hope others were as fortunate!
